Mediação cultural e comunidade: a importância do espaço público

Outdoor Arts Portugal training program 2023/2024.

The community as “the feeling of us” proposes a simultaneously poetic and unifying vision of the various types of ties that make up a community. This definition by Ferdinand Tonnies will guide the discussion and approach of this meeting, from a collaborative and informal work perspective. Based on this idea of “us”, availability for listening becomes an integral part of the practice of mediation and artistic co-creation, since the work becomes more horizontal and accommodates debate, the confrontation of ideas, the commitment. What practices, principles and processes should we adopt in this regard?

In this action we will share good practices and tools that help us develop effective, accessible and democratic mediation work. We will also work on different methods of encouraging the implementation of participatory artistic practices, promoting the development of co-creation projects in public spaces and in diverse communities.

Ana Bragança and Ricardo Baptista are co-founders of Ondamarela, an artistic structure that finds inspiration in people and places for the development of artistic, social and educational projects, awarded the 2019 Access Culture Prize – Social and Intellectual Access. Ana Bragança is a cultural manager, specialized in mediation and community involvement projects. She was a consultant for the consultation and mediation program of Braga’27, a candidate city for European Capital of Culture, and project manager at A Oficina, in Guimarães, where she coordinated the creative industries incubator of the Plataforma das Artes e da Criatividade. Ricardo Baptista is a musician specialized in conceiving and developing work with communities. He conceived and was the director of the “GuimarãesPlay” program for Guimarães2012, European Capital of Culture, and other large-scale musical events with communities, such as “Operação BigBang” (Guimarães, 2012), the “Orquestra da Bida Airada” (Ílhavo, 2014-2020) “Ode to Joy – a citizens orchestra” (Presidency of the European Council – Malta2017), “Mewga Muzika” (Valletta2018 – European Capital of Culture), “Genau!” – Festival Der Regionen (Austria, 2019) and the Adelaide Symphony Citizens Orchestra (Australia, 2023).
