FIS 2024
With each edition, FIS reveals a universe where the soil unfolds in multiple languages in a dialogue between bodies, ideas and times. Here, each artist is a singular voice, echoing with the urgency of the present and the intuition of the future, weaving profound social, political and human reflections.
We come together to share glances, sensations and presences. We meet in performances, gatherings and conversations that allow us to discover new horizons and look at the world with fresh eyes.
In the Parallel Program, FIS Warm-up opens the day. On the first weekend of November, Café Schmits resonates with the visceral melody of O Manipulador, a solitary traveler through the landscapes of alternative rock, while O Pátio Café welcomes the philosophical parody of Alexandre Sá. Uatumã Fattori is the highlight of FIS + Montra - Vila do Conde's contemporary art exhibition, with whom juggling becomes metaphor, transparency becomes flesh, and improvisation becomes poetry, to be seen at Vila do Conde Municipal Market. Rodolfo Lopes and his exhibition “Corpo-Máquina” is the highlight of the Montra + FIS, in an exhibition that invokes the mechanical and the natural, the industrial and the organic, to be seen at Cine-Teatro Garrett, during the Festival.
Extensive Practices, the artistic training programme promoted by FIS, invites you to dance with Akira Yoshida, who transcends the language of breaking; to play with the laws of physics with Wes Peden, a master of contemporary juggling; and to exercise creative writing, in a dynamic process that communicates with the residency show “Obrigada por terem vindo” by Mariana Dixe / Maratona, which will be presented at FIS Festival in 2025.
In the Core Program, “Aesthesic Waves” invites us to dive into the symphony of shapes and rhythms, in an installation of Sonoscopia where movement becomes illusion and vision becomes sound. In partnership with Cineclube Octopus, we are taken to Ryuichi Sakamoto's final concert, a farewell that resonates into eternity. The search for intimate and universal meanings becomes a dance in “Oroimen” by Akira Yoshida, while “UR·DIR” by Gravity Forms challenges us to feel the weight of time and matter. Núria Guiu, in “SPIRITUAL BOYFRIENDS”, turns the stage into a mirror where yoga and digital iconography meet in an ironic and provocative game. And sús takes us with her voice from the suburbs of pop and folklore through a hybrid atmosphere of sound and exploration. Wes Peden's “Rollercoaster” closes the festival's Core Program in a show that invokes a hallucinatory amusement park atmosphere, full of color and rhythms.
For the first time, we're bringing Artistic Dialogues to FIS, a relaxed conversation between artists and the public where we'll analyze “Solo creation vs. the Creation of a solo”.
We close this celebration at Cine-Teatro Garrett, where artists, audience and team gather for a party, guided by the sound of Lessa, DJ without borders. A moment of farewell that is also a prelude, perhaps, to a tenth edition to be lived and dreamed of.
